Version 9

Masterplan version 9 can now be downloaded from the website.

This version removes Compendium integration, and adds regional maps, map view, the ability to sort jotter notes into categories, and improves monster theme support.

Your old libraries are still importable to v9, don’t know if this will be problem to WotC but should help us oldschool Masterplan users a lot. However if it proves to be problem and not supposed to work remove it quick before WotC will get in further actions, I don’t want to lose this good tool

  • Kevin Says:

Yes but he does mention at the end of the manual that the libraries are not transferable. must of made the library files lock to the machine the once you import them from an older version. keeps the older users up and running but keep us from sharing our library files.

  • JSug Says:

I just want to say thank you for continuing to support Masterplan. I can imagine your life would have been much simpler if you’d simply taken down the downloads and told everyone you were done.

  • Snarls-at-Fleas Says:

Thank you for the new version. Maybe there is a way to require active DDi subscription to USE the libraries, and then Compendium integration could be back?

Thanks for the update, and for keeping Masterplan alive. In version 8, Masterplan seemed to remember which project I’d last used, and to put a link on the opening screen. Version 9 doesn’t seem to do that. Any reason why?

  • Shaun Says:

Thanks for the amazing program and your continued efforts. Being able to integrate (again) with the compendium for active DDi subscribers would the jewel in the crown for this extremely useful piece of software.

  • Masterplan Says:

The last open project should still be shown on the welcome screen. Is this breaking?

  • Kevin Says:

Just want to make sure that the “locked” libraries still allow editing and adding monsters. Also, is the export/import html still available if I need to share a monster or two with a friend? I love the software and all the additions you’ve made. Thanks.

  • calous Says:

it is annoying having to keep two sets of libraries now, one for my desktop and one for my laptop. i used to love having master plan on my jump drive and taking it with me all over, now not so much.

also is anyone else having issues with parcels and magic items?

  • Masterplan Says:

Calous: Yes, it’s a shame to lose the portability, but we can thank WOTC for that.

  • Arktivilist Says:

Yes, it kinda sucks, but at least we still have Masterplan. It’s like a shark took a giant bite out of a friend, but they are still alive.

    Comments and problems:

First of all: SO AWESOME!!! I’ve reccomended your software to all my friends who run games.

So after working with it for a while, there are a few things I wish were easier (It’s possible I’m just a noob):

    1) Building encounters: So, the only way I could find to block line of sight and create difficult terrain was to create custom overlays, but with dozens of trees or rocks that takes forever because I had to create a custom overlay for each object to get it to block LOS and have the Difficult terrain counter. Is there a way to COPY/PASTE custom overlays?

    2) Custom Overlays: I used an existing map and wanted to simply make the features on the map work without changing the graphics, so I had to create a transparnet GIF to use as the image so that only the Difficult terrain markers would show, or so it would block LOS. Is there an easier way to do this? Could you create a ‘none’ option for the color?

    3) NPC’s: In my campaign the PC’s are trying to protect a caravan, and I need markers for the NPC’s during combat. Since they can fight and take damage I created them as custom NPC’s and that worked fine, but when I add them to the encounter they add to the XP total. Instead of the fight appearing to be easier for the PC’s it’s now twice as hard. Is there a way to set the XP for a creature in the encounter instead of using the default one, so that I can either Zero it for NPC’s that will not effect combat, or set it at a negative number if they are going to help?

    4) Plot view: I can’t figure out why some of my encounters and plot points are red. Is there a way to create a helper or mouse-over message that will tell me if I have left out some kind of information?

    5) Libraries: Is there a way to make the non-WoTC libraries portable so that my friends and I can share our own (non-copyrighted) monsters, tiles, templates, and such?

Again, I totally love your software and look forward to the next version.

  • Hawke Says:

Oh, and as custom rules elements, it would be helpful if we can add custom diseases and poisons. =)

    -Hawke

  • Masterplan Says:

Have you tried setting your NPCs as allies rather than opponents?
Your plot points are red because they’re either too hard or too easy for your group. Check the jotter for issues that Masterplan has picked up.

  • Hawke Says:

Cool, the jotter thing is perfect…

As for setting them to allies, how do I do that?

    -Hawke

  • Hawke Says:

Cool, the Allies thing is EXACTLY what I was looking for. You are true AWESOMESAUCE.

I guess reading the manual more carefully would help! =D

  • Foodstuff Says:

All I can say is thank you! This will make my games so much easier to plan. My only issue is that I didn’t get to make such a program myself… :P

  • Jesse Says:

@ calous – Yes i have lost every single piece of my magic items and pacel information from my libraries. It seem to have everything else, just no items. It has consused me for days now, and i am getting very frustrated. I didnt change anything either. It still lists my DMG library, my Adv Vault library and all but will not load any items. This is minor, but still a pain to deal with.

  • Masterplan Says:

If you’re having problems, email us and we’ll find out the cause.

  • Foodstuff Says:

Is it possible to have the ‘see also’ list in the encyclopaedia organised by group and category?

  • Dicefist Says:

Feature Request – build Companion Characters
(- I guess I could make them as custom monsters?)

Running a solo 4e game today for my 9 year old son, handed him 2x Dwarven forge carven sets to build the caves, removed all the in-game math with printed power cards with bonuses calculated and weapon damage on them, and used poker chips for hitpoints. I pulled out a selection of goblins, rats, kobolds etc, spent 10 mins putting in the PC stats and monsters, and away we went… Love this app. Takes out all the hard work, makes running a game a breeze, and helping me put the narrative back in the game instead of my head in the rulebooks. Thanks Masterplan!

  • Dicefist Says:

OK, added a companion character as a custom monster. Took about 10 seconds, worked a treat!

  • Dominate Says:

Masterplan mentioned on Dorkageddon Radio Podcast –> http://www.dorkageddon.com/APradio/action-point-radio.xml

  • Kimbo Says:

Am I understanding that WotC made it so there are no libraries available for v9? I just caught wind of this software and would really like to test it as I have some long distance people that want to play with us.

  • wshoffner Says:

I love the regional map feature, it has really helped my players understand where things are located in the game world in relation to their current location or objective.
