Version 9.2
The new version is now available.
There’s been a slight redesign of the way the right-hand preview is formatted, and with Party Goals we’ve added a new way to think about building your plotline.

Hey-hey! Thanks. Let’s see what’s inside.

Where is the Party Goals feature?
July 13th, 2010 at 8:14 am
If you have an empty plot workspace, a link to the party goals screen will be shown on the right.

Perfect!
Hey, what about a way to print to PDF with the program? What about to creat a PDF similar to Dragon Magazines?

Great job on implementing the disease/poison thing. This software makes gaming SO MUCH EASIER. I keep thinking that Wizards needs to buy it from you and hire you to implement it in the Adventure Tools!
Another request: In the encounter Builder, is there a way you could implement right click so that you can right click on a selected monster and easily select things from the edit menu like Faction: Opponent, Faction: Neutral, etc…
I mean, it would be great to have right click contextual menus for lots of things, but that is the one that I missed most of all.

What happened with the library import from DnD?
I opened up my campaign and they are all gone.
July 14th, 2010 at 5:44 pm
This feature was removed at the request of WotC.
July 14th, 2010 at 7:33 pm
On what grounds was that infringement? The whole reason I grabbed a subscription to D&D Insider was to be able to use the ****ing thing.
Ugg…just more work for me. Masterplan is a godsend, I think WotC is just jealous.
July 14th, 2010 at 9:54 pm
It was not an infringement (to the best of our knowledge), but a company the size of Hasbro does not require the burden of proof.

What is the likelihood of seeing Masterplan on the iPad in the future? Something that could be done? Masterplan is something that my group is looking into, and I thought I would check out the prospects of an iPad version.
July 19th, 2010 at 12:49 pm
This is unlikely in the immediate future as the iPad cannot run .NET applications.
July 19th, 2010 at 7:46 pm
I love Masterplan, but .NET dependency nerfs any cross-platform potential, tying the program down to Windows unless the program is rewritten from the ground up on the other platform.
I have used LogMeIn to “run” MasterPlan on an iPad. I’m really running MasterPlan on another computer, of course, and controlling it using the iPad essentially as a dumb terminal. If you can count on consistent and fast Internet access at both points (wherever the computer running MasterPlan is, and wherever the iPad is), this is a workable if inelegant solution.
July 19th, 2010 at 8:07 pm
Masterplan is really great ! I Love. I also found sad that we cannot access the WotC Library, but I think the infringement came that Masterplan download the library content and open a pirate point. So people without subscription could get access to the database and spread it. Maybe if Masterplan needed a constant access and didn’t download anything (having to access/work online), it could bypass the infringement…
Otherwise transfer need to be done manually from Adventure Tools. I found the program very easy to use and useful for creating encounters. Only problem I have (using v9.1) is that modifying a creature doesn’t change any stat except its level !
Keep the good Work !
Thanks !

Yes this is absolutely true of course; but equally, writing Masterplan for the iPad would be just as platform-specific. In the end it comes down to speed and ease of development, and personal preference.
July 19th, 2010 at 10:54 pm
The issue was that data downloaded from the Compendium could be shared with non-subscribers; as of version 9 this is no longer possible.
July 20th, 2010 at 7:40 pm
There is an issue with running an encounter when a player has a two digit initiative modifier (ie:10 or higher)
After double clicking the player to set the initiative roll for the round…
only the first numbers is highlighted so that when typing say 14 it shows up as 141 (assuming the initiative bonus is 10 since the default number is listed as 11)

Anyone else see this, its only annoying really It took me a while to figure out why all of a sudden two people always went first with an initiative of 100 (the cap I guess)
I know I can use the side arrows but when playing with large groups and multiple people have high initiative bonuses the less clicking the better.

Adventure Tools was just updated changing their monster XML format to support the new MM3 Stat Blocks. The importer in Masterplan will need to be updated to support it.
July 22nd, 2010 at 4:31 am
Yeah, I second that. Though MasterPlan already uses a fawx version of the new format, it had some issues (for instance, Auras were listed in the old format instead of as a trait), and now it can’t read the XML from MBuilder (even old monsters).
I’ve also noticed an error with some some monsters I made with the builder that had some no-action powers. After being imported to MP, MP made those powers Standard Actions ones. No realy biggy, but I thought I should mention it anyway.
July 22nd, 2010 at 8:38 am
The initiative issue has been fixed for the upcoming version.
July 22nd, 2010 at 11:56 am
I too have noticed that the import from AT doesn’t work since the update to AT , having this resolved in the next version would be very much appreciated as WotC have already made it time consuming to add monsters.

Not to beat a dead horse but has masterplan commented on why there is a need for locking down libraries with the 9.x versions since you cant parse the DDI info?
If the C&D was for downloading and sharing libraries why disable both? If you can no longer parse the Libraries shouldn’t I be able to use my custom self made creatures at more than one computer? Or vise versa: If I can’t share the files then I should be able to parse DDI.
My complaint is more about switching between two computers since I have to make everything twice since I play on a different computer then I build on.
For someone who started using Master after the 9.0 release being unable to use their creations on more than one computer makes no sense.
Since users can no longer parse information from DDI why can’t I use custom libraries on more than one machine?
July 23rd, 2010 at 11:02 pm
I’m a insider, so, why can’t I use the libraries?
They can’t be loaded in the program, after that, I already bought all the book!
What I need to use de program with my libraries?

Would it be possible the “activate” (or “deactivate”) Player Characters on a per plot point basis?
Sometimes I know in advance when player will not be able to attend a session, and thus, it would be helpful to adjust a plot point according to the players that will be attending that session. For example, let’s assumes that for most gaming sessions all five players are present (and therefore, 5 PCs are defined for the Masterplan project). However, sometimes one player cannot attend a particular session and, in those cases, it would be helpful to be able to deactivate that player’s character for one specific plot point (or set of plot points).
Put another way: globally defining the PCs is an excellent feature, but since globally activating & deactivating a PC affects all plot points it becomes difficult to balance all of a project’s plot points’ encounter levels to match the actual attendance of the players.

Nice stuff again thanks.
If I may add a feature suggestion(dont know if there is a place for that).
It would be awesome to be able to show initiative order on player’s view(without monster hp of course).
July 27th, 2010 at 2:28 am
Hero Lab and Hero Forge are able to integrate to DDI. I think they can do it because they encrypt the data from the Compendium with a key based on a valid DDI user/pass, and tied to a single install of their program.
Is this realistic for MasterPlan?
August 1st, 2010 at 1:28 am
I second the notion by Scott for encrypting data so that we can use the Compendium again. I know my group is still using 8.x version because of the wotc smackdown. Is it possible using .net?
August 2nd, 2010 at 5:24 pm
So… the suggestion is if one has a DDI subscription Masterplan would lock down the Library files, but if you don’t have a subscription it allows sharing? If not, you would force everyone to have a DDI subscription to make their files mobile… kinda sucks to me.

I have been a DM since the original 3 books. I took about a 5 year break and now after playtesting 4.0e have been building a new world. though I love the map builder. I decided for my maps to use NWN and build alot of generic maps , like the game Titan had. IE, brush, hills, etc. I set up the map do a screen capture, bring it into photoshop. I had to experiment with DPI to make it not laggy in your program. but it is working like a charm. I know you have the area feature but, I would love to see a memorize view zoom feature like in most RTS games. For instance my battle mamap is 60 x40 outdoors maps. if there is no suprise the monsters usually wind up on on side of the map or spread out and the part arrives on the other. I would be nice to make a posistion and zoom level hit control 1-9 and lock that view so you could switch to different views and zooms through out the combat by hitting the 1-9 keys.
Let me know what kind of donation that would take to bring about.
I think your prgram is great and It would have been wonderfull to access the compendium but I don’t mind(I do have a DDI subscription). just your encounter deck utility is a god send , far better than random tables. I am still discovering new things your program can do.
Keep up the great work.
August 2nd, 2010 at 7:38 pm
Without the DDI integration this and any PC tool really lose appeal. Having to plugin the data by hand for each adventure takes more time that just doing it by hand in the first place.

Having a problem where when sent to the player veiw HTML in plot point is raw code. All other instances of HTML work fine. Not sure if this is covered.
August 4th, 2010 at 12:51 am
Meh. A couple of macros and my PC dumps all the Monster Builder entries into Materplan in less than a week.
Which reminds me – has anyone hear when a version supporting the new statblock will be released?
August 5th, 2010 at 11:25 pm
I’m wondering too, any word on a release to support the new statblock? Currently I’m printing out all the monsters and just using masterplan to handle hp/effects in the encounters
August 6th, 2010 at 6:36 am
Yes, it’ll be out pretty soon.
August 8th, 2010 at 10:47 pm
Wewp! Thanks! Looking forward to it!
Masterplan is too easy to get hooked on
August 9th, 2010 at 8:13 am
Wow, spambot bomb.
Great program, I am using it to plan out the encounters in my upcoming campaign. Keep up the good work!
August 18th, 2010 at 5:09 pm
Loving this tool, it has completely changed the way I write up campaigns.
